YMS – Yard Management System

The YMS is meant for controlling the movements of units in a depot. It includes not only the software for planning and controlling movements, but also the delivery of communication-terminals for the vehicles.

Objectives

Installing the YMS is meant to improve the productivity of loading and unloading units. The improvements can be detected by means of the following aspects:

• Reducing manual input operations of data processing systems. Because of the inter-station communication being verbally (e. g. between gates and vehicles), a part of the exchanged information needs to be retained through manual input to the host-system.
• More efficient vehicle usage due to very far automated movement control, electronic transmission of transport orders via terminals and optimized assignment of these orders to the vehicles.
• Even operating grade of the facility because of guided gate occupancy.
• Reducing the manual work for managing the yard.
